Sako developed the 7×33mm cartridge based on the 9×19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge, by making a longer case and "necking" the case down to 7 mm calibre (7.21 mm bullet diameter). This cartridge was designed for and well suited to capercaillie and black grouse hunting, a popular sport in Finland, Sweden and Norway. Description: Sako Riihimaki Vixen Mannlicher Deluxe Rifle in. In 1919, two years after Finland declared independence from the Russian Empire, the Suojeluskuntain Yliesikunnan Asepaja (Civil Guard Supreme Staff Gun Works) opened in a former Helsinki brewery to repair private arms and recondition Russian military rifles for Finnish service. The rifle repair shop became financially independent of the civil guard in 1921. The Suojeluskuntain Yliesikunnan Asepaja moved from Helsinki to an ammunition factory in Riihimäki on 1 June 1927, and reorganized as SAKO in the 1930s. Sako started exporting pistol cartridges to Sweden in the 1930s and continued manufacturing submachine gun cartridges through World War II. Comes with W for sale by Bromleys Gun Shop on GunsAmerica - 943734072 Has 24 inch barrel and serial number 366xx. 222 Mannlicher Full Length MannlicherNice semi-gloss finished stock, raised cheek piece, white line spacers, sling swivel studs, Oak leaf and acorn engraved trigger I hope someone can help me out with this.222 Remington with detachable magazine and full length Mannlicher stock. I recently bought a Sako L46 Riihimaki in.
Came from extended family member that offered my their fathers collection of firearms.I'm new to Sako rifles, and this forum. Just acquired a new to me Riihimaki Mannlicher in 222, 23' standard weight barrel, light colored stock, factory peep installed, low Sako rings, removable clip and very nice condition. The rifle does have a detachable magazine and the stock has a wide forend and sling swivels, if this helps. The Sako Riihimaki is a collectible and dependable bolt-action hunting rifle that features a Mannlicher style stock. If you have some Sako dovetail rings with windage adjustment, I might be interested if you want to get rid of them. The action shows "Sako" and "Riihimaki" on the left side along with the serial number. I just wonder how or if it will effect the value if I shoot it.
But if I don't shoot it, it will probably end up getting sold. I've never been one to not shoot a rifle I bought but this ones a little different. Now my problem, do I shoot it or keep it unfired? I did buy a refurbished fixed 10x Redfield that's close to period correct but didn't have period correct rings so they are late model Leupolds. Just a few years before they changed the name to Vixen. Even still had the hood over the front sight and had the original Sako peep sight on the action as well.īest I can tell by the serial number its a 1959 or 60 model. There's not a mark on the stock and the finish is perfect and not a mark on the blueing either and its nice and shiny. I'm still trying to get the gunk out of the chamber It still had cosmoline on the bolt and even in the bore. I pulled the bolt when I was there but kinda kept my mouth shut. Went through all the BS paper work they make you do and took the rifle home. I did end up getting a 5% military discount. I haggled but they weren't budging on the price, they knew what they had. I left the store, drove home, then got in the truck and went back. In the rack was a Mint, and I do mean Mint Sako Riihimaki in 222.
Lately they have been getting used rifles in and I figured I'd give them a look. They didn't have what I was looking for so I was about to leave.
